As boaters hit the water, new NC law strengthens penalty for drunken boating fatalities


NEAR THE FAMOUS FELTON’S. – – DEBRIS FELL FROM THE FAMOUS FOUNTAINS. THE CAUSE OF THAT FIRE IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. IT IS GOOD FRIDAY AND SOME WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET THREE DAYS OFF. AND A NEW STATE LAW IS IN EFFECT THAT AFFECTS PEOPLE BEHIND THE WHEEL. A HOLIDAY, GORGEOUS DAY, PERFECT MIX FOR SOMEONE LIKE DON. BEING OUTSIDE IS LIKE GOD’S WINDOW. HE RUNS TRIANGLE BOAT TOURS AND HAS BEEN TAKING PEOPLE FOR RIDES ON JORDAN LAKE. CERTAINLY HE HAS SEEN A LOT ON THE WATER AS WELL, WHEN IT COMES TO PEOPLE DRINKING AND BOATING, HE SAID IT IS TOUGH TO TELL WHO HAS HAD TOO MUCH. MOST OF THE TIME YOU CANNOT TELL. AND IF THEY ARE TOWING SOMEONE AND DRIVING ALL OVER THE PLACE ANYWAY. AND THIS ISSUE GOT A LOT OF DISCUSSION LAST YEAR. IMPAIRED BOATING USED TO BE A MISDEMEANOR. AND NOW THE LAW HAS BEEN CHANGED TO A FELONY. AND THE NAME IS FOR CHEYENNE MARSHALL, SHE DIED WHILE SHE WAS KNEE BOARDING AND SHE WAS HIT BY A BOAT IN LAKE NORMAN. THE DRIVER WAS DRUNK AND THAT DRIVER WAS CHARGED. THAT LAW TOOK EFFECT DECEMBER 1ST. WATKINS HOPES THIS NEW LAW WILL CHANGE HABITS FOR SOME ON THE WATER.
