Community leaders stress boating safety following river deaths


TELLS US HOW YOU CAN STAY SAFE WHEN YOU GO OUT ON YOUR NEXT CANOE TRIP. REPORTER: CANOE RENTAL SHOPS SAY YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU’RE DOING BEFORE GOING OUT ON THE WATER. THEY SAY YOU HAVE TO CHECK THE WATER LEVEL AND MAKE SURE IT’ WITHIN THE RIVERBANKS. ALSO MONITOR THE TEMPERATURE OF THE WATER AND AIR. THEY SHOULD BE A COMBINE TEMPERATURE OF 140 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT. THEY SAY PEOPLE SHOULD ALWAYS WEARING A LIFE JACKET AND NOT DRINK ALCOHOL.>>YOU DON’T WANT TO GO INTO RISING WATER BECAUSE THE CURRENT AT THAT POINT WILL BE 5-6 MILES PER HOUR AND IT WILL BE STRONG ENOUGH TO PUSH YOU INTO TREES AND STRONGER THAN YOU CAN SWIM.
